Scientific Communications Writer
Turn complex healthcare and scientific information into clear, compelling content while providing immediate support to a fast-moving communications team with significant workload demands.
This role is ideal for a proactive, experienced writer who can quickly take ownership of assignments, balance competing deadlines, and produce polished work with minimal supervision. You will develop content for annual reports, websites, social media, scientific materials, and other public-facing communications while collaborating with subject-matter experts and stakeholders across the organization.
The Team You Will Be Joining
You will support a Texas public agency that funds groundbreaking cancer research, prevention initiatives, and product development programs. Its work advances the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer while helping researchers and healthcare organizations turn promising ideas into meaningful public impact.
Major Duties
- Write, revise, and edit scientific, healthcare, and technical content for public and internal audiences.
- Translate complex medical and scientific information into clear, accurate, and engaging language.
- Develop articles, feature stories, impact narratives, and annual report content.
- Create and edit website copy and social media content aligned with organizational goals and brand standards.
- Coordinate the review, organization, formatting, and delivery of publications and technical materials.
- Collaborate with researchers, program staff, communications professionals, and other subject-matter experts.
- Ensure written materials meet editorial, accessibility, and agency style requirements.
What Are We Looking For?
- Professional experience in healthcare, medical, scientific, public health, or research communications.
- Experience translating scientific or technical information for a general audience.
- Strong writing, editing, research, and content-development skills.
- Ability to produce content across reports, articles, websites, and social media platforms.
- Excellent command of grammar, punctuation, tone, and audience-specific messaging.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related office software.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, business, education, healthcare communications, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
- Proactive, self-directed working style with the ability to step into an active workload and contribute quickly.
- Demonstrated ability to balance multiple assignments, shifting priorities, and firm deadlines with minimal supervision.
Exciting Opportunity Details
- Rate: $47.00 per hour
- Length of Engagement: Temporary assignment
- Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am- 5pm
- Location: Austin, TX – Hybrid
