The Substitute High School Teacher for a Correctional Facility Campus is responsible for providing and implementing the daily lesson plans in the assigned courses according to the district’s requirements. The Substitute High School Teacher will manage the classroom environment, provide activities, materials, and promote student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. 

 

Please note that this Substitute position is for a campus located within a Correctional Facility. In addition to passing the background check and completing fingerprinting for The Excel Center, the applicant will be required to pass the background check and additional training required by MTC and TDCJ. 

 

  REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A minimum of 60+ college credit hours, Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited university is required. 
    1. All substitute teacher applicants must submit proof of an official accredited college transcript (showing the degree conferred or the minimum of 60+ college hours) OR a valid Texas Teacher Certificate from the Texas Education Agency (TEA)
  2. General knowledge of possible assigned subject areas. 
  3. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  4. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. 
  5. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in a correctional facility setting. 
  6. Ability to follow oral and written directions. 
  7. Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies. 
  8. Must be able to understand work instructions in English.
  9. Must possess the essential mindset that all students can achieve at high levels.
  10. Must possess understanding of marginalization and how it impacts those Goodwill serves and employs.
  11. Must be able to successfully pass a background check and complete fingerprinting requirement.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Current Texas Teaching Certification. 
  2. 1+ years of experience providing instruction to adults.


Compensation:

Compensation for this position is a daily rate of:

Full Days - $160 (4 or more hours)

Half Days - $75 (Less than 4 hours)

Long Term - $170*

Excess Hours - $30/hour**

Goodwill Excel Center is a public school and pre-employment background check and fingerprinting is required to ensure the applicant meets all eligibility requirements for the position.
