Assistant Manager, New Goods
Summary of Position
The New Goods Assistant Manager is responsible for managing daily operations of the New Goods Warehouse. This includes warehouse production, internal customer service, vendor management, inventory control, receiving product, and shipments to retail locations. The New Goods ASM adjusts processes to ensure efficiency and maximization as well as creates best practices for inventory control and is responsible for clearly defining roles, responsibilities, and requirements for their direct reports. The New Goods ASM will hold each accountable by setting specific performance expectations, providing necessary training, personally following up, and giving consistent and candid feedback.
Role and Responsibilities
- Manage the overall operation of the New Goods Department including opening and closing shifts.
- Verifies incoming shipments through accurate inventory counts and maintains production distribution records. Communicates needs with leadership as necessary.
- Accurately counts and documents inventory on hand.
- Collaborate with the Procurement Specialist to manage core inventory levels ensuring warehouse stock has enough inventory to fulfill weekly store orders.
- Partner with Transportation Leadership to schedule freight deliveries to meet New Goods and Retail needs.
- Partner with Procurement Specialist to ensure all UPC’s are created in POS before product ships to Retail locations.
- Print and distribute product barcodes as needed.
- Track and report out on store order fulfillments and confirmation receipts.
- Maintain sufficient staffing levels for production while attaining budgeted payroll expenses. This includes firing, hiring, and training all new associates in accordance with Goodwill policies.
- Set and manage schedules for all new goods staff to ensure seasonal needs are met.
- Develop, lead, evaluate, and counsel assigned employee(s). Direct, supervise and coordinate staff activities to meet goals and objectives. Model expected behavior for staff.
- Compile and communicate all required bookkeeping, accounting, and reporting requirements on a timely basis including but not limited to surveys, production reports and sales reports.
- Review and analyze profit and loss statements and adjust store operations according to data.
- Maintain effective email, phone, and face to face communication with all internal departments.
- Use feedback to adjust processes to enable a smooth Retail process from receipt to sale to inventory count process.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional facility always.
- Comply with safety and security practices including reporting safety hazards and injuries.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisory responsibilities over the New Goods Team Supervisor and New Goods Merchandise Processors.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Must be able to understand work instructions in English.
- Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization.
- Minimum 1-year experience in logistics, inventory control, or similar field with supervisory responsibilities.
- At least 2 years’ supervisory experience.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Must have excellent communication and computer skills.
- Must have excellent analytical, creative, and flexible problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
- The ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a telephone and keyboard.
