Tax Specialist


ResponsibilitiesOVERVIEWSEGL/FIS/AME requests a V.P. level head count with experience in U.S. information reporting and withholding preferred and U.S. tax compliance, tax provision and tax return preparation experience. This role combines U.S. tax documentation and information reporting responsibilities with core tax compliance duties.  Strong technology and data skills, supporting accurate reporting, process automation, and modernization of the tax function are crucial. The position works closely with finance, technology, and external advisors in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment.MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIESInformation Reporting/Withholding Support (IRW) – Provide support to Tax Department IRW headcount to ensure adequate coverage with respect to general U.S. tax form, treaty rate, and information reporting questions.  Review treaty representations in U.S. tax forms to ensure validity.  Communicate with stakeholders on SG’s IRS withholding tax accounts.  Coordinate information for annual 1042 and 1042-S reporting.Compliance - Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax filings applicable to banking and financial services entities.  Assist in coordinating the review of these returns. Anticipate audit issues and escalate issues as appropriate.Tax Accounting - Preparation/review of quarterly tax provisions prepared under IAS.  Assist in coordinating the review by SG’s external auditors.  Answer any queries from the external auditor related to the provision. Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly business plan projections to support the financial statement benefits of deferred tax assets.Technology - Maintain and enhance tax data workflows, reconciliations, and controls.  Leverage technology tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in tax reporting.  Document workflows, controls, and technical processes.  Identify opportunities for process automation, standardization, and risk reduction.
