Industrial Equipment Mechanic

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facility Operations Division, Mechanical Systems Branch, Mechanical Systems Day, Evening or Night Sections.


The incumbent serves as Industrial Equipment Mechanic. The tour of duty is Monday-Friday 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Duties include, but are not limited to: Troubleshoot, repair and overhaul automotive and industrial equipment such as garage sweepers and scrubbers, riding floor varnishers and scrubbers, forklifts and pallet jacks. Maintain and repair gasoline and diesel engines. Troubleshoot and installs alternators, clutches, drive shafts, propellers, bearings, struts, gauges, pumps and other components. Set up and operate machine tools to manufacture component parts or re-machine existing parts. Charge and service batteries. Change oil and replace filters. Remove, replace and repair and adjust parts such as belts, hoses, gaskets, seals, pumps, plugs, points, condensers, clutches, brakes, tires and wheels. Repair problems in electrical, hydraulic and vacuum systems. Reset circuit breakers; replace electronic control modules and diodes; clean, adjust and replace parts on vacuum and hydraulic pumps; adjust or replace mechanical and hydraulic transmissions. Repair mechanical and hydraulic baling machines and overhead garage door mechanisms. Remove and replace hydraulic cylinders. Replace seals and chain links. Adjust spring tension and limit switches. Repair small gasoline engines on power tools. Perform minor body repairs using body putty, fiberglass and other materials. Use measuring devices and test equipment and such as levels, feeler gauges and ampmeter to adjust and test equipment. Connect fuel lines, hose couplings, lubricating systems, steam lines and other power sources. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and other drawings as guidance Perform other related duties as assigned.
